Somebody’s Lying?

U.S. Representative Sarah (Tim) McBride is transgender. He believes himself to be a woman. Like so many others in his party, he accused Trump of lying during his State of the Union address. Now, whether Trump did or didn’t lie is something else entirely. In the meantime, I think there’s a peculiar grandeur in watching a man who sincerely believes himself to be a woman accuse someone else of dishonesty. I mean, the irony is by no means subtle. The entirety of McBride’s very “self” requires the wholesale surrender of ordinary reality. And the confidence with which he points his finger at Trump and calls him a liar only sharpens the absurdity. It shows just how far from reality he and so many others have strayed. Somehow, they’ve forgotten that a charge of falsehood carries weight only when it’s actually spoken from within the bounds of reality—from within the framework of objective truth. When that framework has already been abandoned, McBride’s pointed finger, painted and all, becomes even sillier in premise than it looks in person. Wow. Just wow.
